& RAIN It
had been a long week. All he wanted
to do was get away and relax. He had just completed a tough undercover
assignment, and felt like he had been run over by a steamroller. Ezra
had contacted an old friend from his college days and arranged to borrow the
“family cabin”. His flight to Vancouver, British Columbia, took three hours,
and he was exhausted when he arrived at the seaside town of White Rock. Not even
bothering to unpack, he, literally, fell into bed. When
he awoke twelve hours later, it was to the sound of a summer storm. He sat in
the window seat, looking out at the ocean as the winds whipped the water to
froth. As he sat and recharged his mind and soul, he saw someone walking on the
sand. She
looked to be about his age, slightly overweight, but seemingly comfortable in
her skin. The wind was attacking her short brown hair, mussing it in all
directions. She had her windbreaker undone and was walking into the wind with
her head held high and her arms stretched out, as if to embrace a lover. The
look on her face left Ezra speechless. The shear joy and freedom displayed had
him gasping for air. Before he knew it, he put on his boots and jacket, and
slipped outside to follow her. Walking
towards her, Standish stopped when he got about three feet away, suddenly unsure
about what he was doing. The mysterious brunette must have sensed he was there
for she turned around to look at him. She shyly smiled at Ezra, her hazel eyes
sparkling with life. He was about to introduce himself but she just shook her
head and put her index finger on Ezra’s lips to silence him. She
held out her hand and waited for the southerner to make the next move. Looking
at her, he took a deep breath and reached out to clasp her fingers in his. As
they strolled along the shore Ezra started to feel a sense of peace wash over
him. He couldn’t understand his attraction to this fey woman, She most
definitely wasn’t his type. She seemed to represent the earth and the
elements. She brought images of home and security, feelings that he never
experienced before. Ezra
let go of her hand and shifted until she was tucked securely next to him, his
arm wrapped around her shoulder. She, in turn, slipped her arm around his waist
and he could have sworn she started to purr. As they continued walking on the
beach, it began to rain. Ezra
and the woman started running back towards his cabin. By the time they returned,
they were soaked to the skin. Once at the door, Standish wasn’t sure what to
do. The brunette smiled at him, the look in her eye made his stomach do
flip-flops. As she turned to leave, the southerner quickly made a decision. He
reached out his hand to clasp hers and gently drew her towards him. His clever
fingers reached out to trace her face and lips, then cupping the back of her
head, he drew her face towards his. As
their lips met, Ezra knew that this was a kiss unlike any he had experienced.
The green-eyed man felt a jolt of electricity arcing from her, setting his
senses afire. As her mouth opened to accept his, the southerner's tongue entered
and he tasted the salt spray of the sea, peppermint, chocolate and the very
essence that made up this unique woman. The locking of their lips deepened and
soon she was melting in his arms. They continued in this manner until the couple
had to break apart in order to breath. The fire that burned within him was
echoed in her eyes. Making sure that the brunette wasn’t going to leave, Ezra quickly unlocked the door. He turned to let her in, but stopped as he saw the apprehension and fear in her hazel-eyes. The last thing he wanted to do was frighten this creature. Standish asked her to wait there and when she nodded, he quickly went into the cabin. When the green-eyed returned, he had some towels and blankets. He took her hand and led her to a wicker couch that was dry under an awning. Sitting down, the southerner tucked her beside him. He gently towel dried her hair, and then took care of his own. With the blankets spread over them, they were soon warm, curled up in each other’s arms. Looking
down at the woman beside him, he had no idea what the rest of the weekend was
going to bring. He only knew that he was content for the first time in a long
time, and that before the night was through, he was going to kiss her again,
which may lead to something more…maybe something permanent. The
end….maybe? Like
it? Hate it? Let me know. bmarx@shaw.ca
